SQUASH SECTION RULES

Premises

Two courts are situated back to back on the southern side of the clubhouse. An electronic lock controls access to the courts, the code for which is changed periodically at the discretion of the Squash Committee. Members of the Squash Section can obtain a key for the door to the clubhouse from the Hon. Squash Secretary or the Club Steward, on the payment of a deposit. If membership is relinquished keys must be returned and deposits will be refunded.

Management

Squash shall be a section of the Farnham Common Sports Club (FCSC) and ultimate responsibility for the management of this section shall rest with the Officers and main Committee of the FCSC who have approved these rules. The General Rules of the Club, as amended from time to time, shall deemed to be incorporated within the rules of the Squash Section and shall prevail in the event of conflict or inconsistency.

Membership

Membership of the Squash Section is limited to a maximum of 270 members. When vacancies occur, priority shall be given to those on any waiting list who are already members of FCSC. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any applicant and to terminate membership without assigning any reason. In the latter case the appropriate portion of the annual subscription would be refunded.

The category of Junior Membership shall apply to those under 19 years of age. Students up to the age of 23 in full time education are considered as Juniors.

Section Committee

A Committee elected by the members of the Section at the Squash Annual General Meeting shall consist of a Secretary and up to six other members. During the term office, this Committee shall have the power to co-opt replacement members if required. The Secretary and his/her representatives is an ex-officio member of the Main Committee. Three members of the Committee shall form a quorum but co-opted members shall not form part of the quorum.

The Section Committee shall meet not less than 8 times a year and shall be responsible for:-
• Advising the Main Committee on the running of the Section and implementing whenever necessary
• Arranging matches and tournaments
• Ensuring that members abide by the rules of the Section.

Section Wardens

To assist the Committee in ensuing members observe the rules at all times, the Committee may appoint selected members to be Wardens of the Squash Section. The names of these Wardens together with a list of their responsibilities will be posted on the notice board in the foyer of the courts.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions for membership of the Section shall be determined annually by the Main Committee and shall be payable on a calendar year basis. In the event of subscriptions not being paid by the time set by the Management, membership will be taken as having been relinquished and new members brought in from any waiting list.

Playing Hours

Whilst members may use the courts before 9.30am, courts are only bookable between the hours of 9:30am and 10:15pm each day, except during those times when they are required for matches, tournaments or coaching sessions organised by the Committee. No play is permitted after 10:15pm without approval of the Section Secretary or his/her nominee.

Court Booking

A booking sheet is put up in the court foyer each week for advance booking to be made over the maximum of a three week period. All sessions shall be of a 45 minute duration.

Booking stamps purchased from the machine situated in the court foyer must be used as directed by the Management.

When booking stamps are required, any use of the courts must be covered by stamps, which should be affixed to the booking sheet for the appropriate session.

Regardless of booking stamps having been used, if players are late for their session by 10 minutes or more, the booking will be forfeited if other players have taken the court. In this event, booking stamps are also forfeited,.

When booking courts, one player’s name must be clearly written on the booking sheet/stamp and guest indicated if applicable.

The specific rules governing the booking of courts shall be displayed on the notice board in the court foyer and may be amended at any time at the discretion of the Committee.

Court Charges

Court charges are levied by coin meters which operate the court lights. These charges incorporate a court fee. Courts must be used with lights at all times.

At the discretion of the Management, courts booked and subsequently not used will be charges at double the prevailing court rate. Regardless of when cancelled, this double charge will be levied if the court is not rebooked, the member making the last booking will be responsible for ensuring the court is used.

Guests

Guests may use the courts only when playing with a member. Any one guest may only play four times during peak hours in any one calendar year. Whenever a guest plays, a member is responsible for paying the guest fees as directed by the Management. This fee shall be paid immediately into the collection box situated near the light meters. Envelopes are provided, which should show the date and names of the member and guest. If it is necessary to send out a guest fee reminder the fee will be doubles.

Dress and Equipment

All members and guests are expected to wear England squash approved clothing on court and under no circumstances with black-soled shoes be allowed. The rackets used on the courts must be squash or racket ball rackets and balls must be non mark complying with England squash standards.

General

Members are asked to ensure that:-

• Courts are vacated immediately at the end of the session if the next players are waiting
• Court doors are not opened without warning when play is in progress (please check through viewers or from the balcony first)
• No smoking areas are observed
• Items such as rackets, glasses, cups etc are not placed on balcony walls
• Glasses, cans, bottles etc taken in to the squash building are returned to the clubhouse
• Showers are fully turned off after use
• Articles of value are not left in the changing rooms
• All lights, fan heaters (four switches with green warning lights over the light meters) are turned off and all doors locked when the club premises are vacated either during or at the end of each day.
• All members of Squash Section should carry their current membership card when on Club premises and produce it at the request of a Club Official or a member of the Section’s Committee
